PS 102 Queens

Our school is located in the section of Elmhurst in the borough of Queens in New York City.

We are using this site to draw attention to world problems.  Get informed and help us make a change...NOW!

Our students are participating in a technology project where we research world problems. 

Our goal is to explore problems, including poverty, pollution, natural disasters, terrorism, animal abuse,

and illiteracy, and learn how governments and individuals address these issues. 

This wiki was created to help the student through the project. It will serve as an online bulletin board, documenting the process.

I will be posting information on this page that will assist you.  We can use this page as a starting place when exploring the web.

Project Guidelines

1. Your iMovie must include a minimum of twelve facts.

2. Your first slide must include a definition of your topic.

     Ex. "Terrorism is the use of force or violence against people or property to create fear and to get publicity for political causes."

3. Your last three slides must include information about how we can resolve the problem.  For example, you can discuss what the government is currently doing to help, provide information about what students can do, or explain what people can do in the future to prevent the problem from getting worse.

4. You can download a 'digital storyboard' to help you plan your movie. Click on Images and Files in the sidebar.

5. You are responsible for maintaining your page.  As you collect your facts, log on and add them to your page.  Click on your page below to add facts about your topic.  I will edit facts or post questions that will guide your research.  Once your 12 facts have been approved, you can begin creating your iMovie.

6. Be creative, interesting, and have fun exploring...

Hello Class-

Now that we know about world problems, it is time to stand up and take action within our school community.  I would like each group to come up with a solution to their world problem.  Of course, we may not be able to save the world, but we can start by inspiring our community to make small changes. Your sollution can be a suggestion, made at the end of your iMovie, to the students at P.S.102. 

Here is how to begin...

Once you are on the website you will be asked four questions, including what problem you are seeking a solution for, who you will be asking for help, where you plan to take action, and how long you will be working to make a change.  Click the drop down list for each question and select an answer for each question. Then, click search!

You will then be given a list of ideas...things you can do in your community to help.  Choose some solutions and post them to your page.  These solutions will appear at the end of your iMovie.
