1. Terrorism is the use of violence against civilians in order to attain political goals.
2. On September 11, 2001 terrorists hijacked four passenger jets over the United States and killed 3,000 people.
3. The Middle East has been a source of terrorism since the end of World War Two.
4. A popular understanding is that many Middle Eastern countries are still struggling to develop their identity because, throughout history, they have been controlled by different factions, countries, and governments.
5. The terrorists went to Washington in a jet and crashed into The Pentagon.
People used the word "heroes" to describe the people who rushed to the World Trade Centers in New York, the countryside of Pennsylvania and the Pentagon in Virginia to try and save victims of the terrorist acts. During this time many people joined together and stood united to help their country.
6. A rising threat of terrorism and violence has spread to other regions as the troubles in the Middle East have continued.
7. The United States military sent troops to Iraq in 1990 to fight terrorism.
8. Bin Laden has become a known leader of terrorism in Afghanistan.
9. More than 3,000 lives were taken in the events of 9/11. 9/11 has become associated with terrorists because it the most recent successful attack against the United States.
10. Therefore, the world's attitude towards Afganhanistan changed. The 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States created negative feelings toward Afganistan.
11. We need to make sure people understand that not all of the Middle East is bad, but certain parties living there will use terrorism as a way to achieve political goals. This does not mean we should treat people who are from the Middle East like terrorists.
12. People are starting a war aganist terrorist.

Here is what you can do if you notice something suspicious or are in the middle of an attack:
Be aware of your surroundings. Always know where the emergency exits are so you can safely leave a building if an attack occurs.
Don't accept packages from strangers and don't touch any suspicious packages. Only be responsible for your own belongings.
If you are old enough, take an American Red Cross first aid class. It's good to know what you should do if someone around you is injured.
If you are asked to evacuate a building, even in a drill, take it seriously. Like when we have a fire or shelter drill here at school.
Get far away from windows or glass doors and get under another kind of shelter if possible.
Follow the directions of the officials on the scene - and stay out of the way of the emergency officials who may be responding to the area. Crowding the area makes it difficult for them to do their job.
We should all help each other in times of emergency:
You may be able to help out. Children of all ages can help in the shelter by babysitting other children or cleaning up or serving food.

Well I would say that Terrorism started a long time ago before we all were born. There is so many attacks in history that no one really know who really started. Terrorism is happening even right now somewhere around this world so we aren't that sure for exact. I hope this answers all your questions.

I was in high school when the World Trade Center was attacked. I remember how it slowly unfolded. At first, people did not realize it was related to terrorism. In fact, I don't think people really used to word "terrorism" very often. When the second plane hit the second tower people began to realize that the chances of having two planes hit by accident was very unlikely. It was the first time in the history of the United States that all air traffic (airplanes) were all forced to land at the same time because no one knew which planes had been hijacked. The New York State Museum in Albany, New York has an amazing exhibit on the Sept. 11 attacks. You should see if you can find the website for the museum online and find any information or media.

It is good that you are talking about people who were nearby to help you gain perspective. What are some other events that are related to terrorism that you may include in your presentation?
